Adaptable: Able to adjust to new conditions.

Major life changes, whether good or bad, can rock your world. Fear of them can hinder you from taking risks and moving forward. By making flexibility your friend and accepting things as they are, you can handle them with aplomb. Just remember that you are able.

If you take a minute to think about it, you will realize you’ve had to adapt to many changes in life and though daunting at first, you made it. I can look back at major changes like losing my mom, adjusting to cancer, or getting a divorce with relief and amazement that I made it through! All before I turned 30. Usually wiser and better because of it. More recently, I broke my finger and have had to adjust to only using one hand. With a two and three year old, I wasn’t sure how this would go, but after a couple of days my brain had completely retrained itself, and I was back in action. It was frustrating at first, but I figured it out.

Though this is a minor setback as I see it, what helped me with real challenges is the same. I had to remember that I had gotten through major changes before and to be thankful it wasn’t worse. Or more difficult. I had to accept the changes fully, but be patient with others and myself. It takes time to adjust, and that’s normal.

Are you experiencing or anticipating any changes? Take some time to think about how you can embrace them, accept them, and be more flexible as you adjust.
