Its easy to focus on big shows of love and humanity like holidays and large scale charities, but for most of us, deciding to make kindness our default on a daily basis is the best place to start.
Have you ever felt like the world was going to hell in a hand-basket and then let your mind meander down a winding road of woe and helplessness? Me to, in fact I used to do it all of the time. I found peace when I realized that not everyone was meant to start a foundation, run a company or lead a movement. Some people are meant to play a smaller but equally important supporting role in improving the world. Awareness of global current events is critical, but only focusing on the large-scale problems that need to be solved can lead to feelings of frustration and hopelessness that causes many people to not do anything at all.
Though it may not seem like much, striving to be a more loving, gentler person in all of your daily actions and interactions is worth something. At the very least you won’t be making the world worse by being a jerk. One subtle shift in behavior can open your mind to the possibility that there is good to be found in the world, and you can contribute to that good in your own way.
If you decide to take a small daily action that works for you and make it a habit or routine, others are likely to follow. Slowly, you are building character and infusing all that you do with more grace and love. Good deeds are done effortlessly, peace in your heart is restored and before you know it perceived differences with others are dissolved.
